        English words and language become complicated when it comes to a very hectic day or sometimes a busy day. In hurry, people write or pronounce whatever comes to their mind at first. This becomes the reason for being an unknown person to the English words, sentences, and paragraphs. Which is correct?- Busyness v/s Business.

        This is something because of the pronunciation of the words. Some words are pronounced as something else but have a different spelling as compared to the pronunciation. 

        For example:- 

        Knight is a word that is pronounced as Night because the letter ‘K’ is silent. 

        Sometimes, people get confused upon such words which trouble us due to a lack of understanding. 

        Similarly, Busyness and Business are two different words with different meanings. 

        Let’s understand the difference between the words with their meanings and examples. 


        • As the word suggests it’s related to busy people or the state of being busy.
        • The word busy-ness is used to really describe someone’s busy schedule in detail or depth.
        • Busy is a word that describes the work someone has for the entire day.
        • Adding ‘ness’ to it, makes it more clear about the real state of being busy. It actually describes the word in a more clear way.
        • Having a lot of work to be done or pending work to be done or extra hours work to be done can be termed as Busyness.

        Business is a word used for the term of earning a source of income for a standard of living. 

        To a greater extent, everyone needs to have good hands-on language part and practice more on the description plus pronunciation to have a clear understanding of things. Extracting words and defining them into your own words or giving them your understanding can help you understand things on a big or large scale. Not to forget rules and other things can be all done by remembering things in your way.

        Apply things practically to avoid making mistakes or confusion in your head. It’s a saying that to remember something you need to practice it more and mug up less. Using words that trouble you can become a reason for stress. Try to understand the words, the pronunciation, meaning, objective, and then it will be easy to use the correct word with all the assumptions to it. 


        As we discussed the words and differentiated between them we concluded that one word describes the state of being busy whereas, another word describes the source of earning.

        The difference between the two words Busyness and Business have two different meanings. Hence, as per the evaluation and analysis on the words, it’s clear that busyness is a state of being busy or not available at the moment. And business is an occupation or mode of earning a better living through providing the customers with their basic needs and requirements.

        I think you have some excellent options. I’ll start with the first option MBA students are taught:

        Do Nothing

        Honestly, you can just ride the wave until it’s done. Industries and products don’t always die overnight. Sometimes you’ll be able to work for years in a “dying” industry, or a career field that seems to go nowhere.

        If you can do the career you are interested in, make decent money, and have the lifestyle you want for a few more years, and maybe longer, then why think about leaving now? Ride it out, have fun.

        BUT… and this is a big but: prepare for the inevitable changes coming. This could mean you develop new marketable skills for your next job. Perhaps you go back to school, take courses to skill up, volunteer to get new skills, etc. This is a path to help you land another job when the time comes, or when the right opportunities come.

        Or, perhaps you work on alternative revenue streams, what we now call side hustles. Why not join the “gig economy?” The idea is you have other things you work on that generate income that aren’t necessarily a job. There are hundreds of ways you could earn money with side hustles. They could be service related or products. You could get serious about a variety of investments… opportunities to earn money are endless.

        Not only is that a viable next step in your career, it could be a lot more fun and rewarding!

        Either of those options can be done while you don’t make any changes at your current employment.

        Look at Alternative Careers

        I had my career path mapped out and was pretty sure I knew what I was going to do. I had an idea of the titles, how long I should have them, types of companies, etc. Of course, getting laid off changed everything. The titles that were once important to me were no longer interesting or relevant. My focus changed from one career path to a completely different, and more fun, path.

        Be open to changes. The world is changing everywhere, every day. Talk to people about what they do, or what they would like to do. Learn about adjacent career paths or titles that you might not have thought about, but you could easily do. Make sure you consider what your skills are from your current job that would help you have a great career on another path (these are called “transferrable skills”).

        I know change can be hard, but it can also be exciting. Once you realize you have options you seem to have permission to look at other things. The world is at your feet… why not explore it a little?

        Look at Current Customers and Vendors

        If the career you are in seems to have a dead end, consider working for any of the customers and vendors your organization works with. I guarantee people you work with in other companies have been watching you. They might think, “I would love to bring that person over to our organization!” You might have the right skills, knowledge about the industry or specific processes, or other important information or know-how that would really help their organization.

        In my Big Failed Job Search I felt a bit embarrassed to approach customes and vendors. I wasn’t sure if there was some kind of violation of an agreement. Make sure you know what kind of agreements you might be violating… but if you aren’t violating anything, have conversations with your old peers, colleagues, and friends at those other organizations!

        They might be able to help you within their own organization. They might help you with their industry contacts. Don’t feel bad about working for a competitor (unless you legally can’t). I didn’t think I could, because when we were competitors we… competed! But once you are no longer employed with your old organization, you got mouths to feed.

        Again, make sure you aren’t crossing any legal lines here (I’ve said this at least three times, so I think I’m covered!).

        Even if you are not allowed to work for a competitor, talk to your peers there. They might have some introductions to other organizations that you are allowed to work in.

        Invest In Yourself

        People who are successful know it’s important to invest in yourself. Invest in your continual education. This could be going to school, but there are many ways to invest in your education.

        How do you get better at something? Practice it! Get the right knowledge from a trusted source and then start practicing. You’ll likely make mistakes, at first, but just keep practicing!

        Invest in your hard skills. If you are a project manager, what practices or methodologies should you learn about? What books should you read, what courses should you watch? Are there certifications you should study for? Learn your craft so you are on the path to expert status.

        Invest in your soft skills. Learn how to be more empathetic. Become a better listener and communicator. People skills are needed everywhere today: at work, at home, etc. Improving your soft skills will help you have what employers are looking for.

        Network Now!

        Networking is one of the key elements of career management. Don’t think of networking as a tedious four letter word. It can be fun and very rewarding. If you are on a bad career path, a strong network could be the key to switching. A great network watches out for, and helps, you. I talk a lot about networking on this blog… it’s key to job search and career management.

        Work On Your Brand

        Like it or not, a personal brand is a real thing. Work on your brand so when the time comes to look for another job you don’t have to start from square one. Your brand, if created right, can precede you. I’ve worked on my brand over the years and when I go to conferences people feel like they know, like, and trust me. That takes work, but it’s better to start now than to fumble around with your personal brand when you get laid off. I already tried that and I’m here to tell you: it doesn’t work well.

        I asked him what our messages were (afterall, my presentation was about two hours long and I wasn’t sure what single message I gave).

        He said, “Ours is a message of hope. When you show people they have options, you give them hope.”

        You have options. Don’t lose hope. The future is as bright as you can imagine.

        7 Myths that keep Women from Climbing the Corporate Ladder

        Too often, women are confronted with career roadblocks that limit their progress up the corporate ladder. Many of those are based on cultural and social “truths” that are in reality myths. Here are seven myths that commonly keep women from achieving the career goals for which they strive and deserve.

        Myth: Women aren’t good at negotiations.

        I decided to test out this theory by asking my daughter what she wanted for breakfast the other day.

        “Chocolate cake,” she said without hesitation.

        “If you have chocolate cake for breakfast, won’t you be hungry later?” I asked. She paused for a moment before responding, “OK…bacon.”

        That’s right—she would rather have bacon than cake for breakfast. But when I tried to negotiate with her father about what time the family could go to the pool that afternoon, he quickly shut me down. He didn’t even try bargaining; he gave me two options and told me which one we were doing (the one that got us home 20 minutes after I was hoping).

        While it’s certainly true that women are less likely to ask for better compensation packages, negotiate pay raises, and push back against the status quo, this doesn’t mean they’re incapable. They just need their colleagues to be more flexible and understanding so that they can even think of negotiating. But nevertheless, the skills required to negotiate effectively are learnable—and once you get started, you may never want to stop!   

        Myth – Women are too emotional

        In my experience, most of the women I have met in high-powered positions are extremely levelheaded. They know how to keep their emotions under control and make rational decisions. That being said, that doesn’t mean they don’t have a heart or compassion for those around them. In my opinion, women just use a different kind of vernacular to express their emotions.

        “What is wrong with being emotional? What’s wrong with being human?”

        This is an excellent question, and one that I am sure will spark some debate. Again, my personal view on this is that it has nothing to do with capability or strength of character; it comes down to the different ways men and women have been socialized. Getting emotional is a sign of weakness in the masculine socialization. But being able to show compassion and emotion can be a sign of strength as a female. As men have been internalized to suppress emotion, they might see it as a threat or hindrance in building character. In my opinion, a little emotion never hurt anybody.

        Myth: Women can’t handle the pressure of corporate life.

        While women face some unique obstacles in the workplace, heavy workloads aren’t one of them. Research shows that both men and women are equally prone to burnout. Stephanie Losee, author of six books on work-life balance, says that while she’s seen research that suggests female managers tend to get stressed more easily than male managers, the difference is “small to negligible.”

        The American Psychological Association says that women and men are both at risk of feeling overwhelmed by work demands. Stress, like burnout, doesn’t discriminate on the mere basis of gender.

        Myth: Women can’t be in top management because they lack the desire to lead.

        Enough women in leadership positions and young girls will have role models to look up to, which is a key factor in their choosing a career path or not, according to Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer and a vocal proponent of women’s rights in the workforce.

        “A survey by the Girl Scouts found that girls’ number one career choice is ‘business leader,’ ahead of doctor, teacher, and lawyer,” she writes. “But their number one roadblock to success is not being able to see themselves in those roles.” 

        Dare to address the roadblock? In my opinion, women face too many obstacles in their pathway to becoming a great leader – misogyny, for one – that their aspirations are left behind.

        Myth: Women care more about their personal lives than their careers

        In an interview with The Huffington Post, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg told the story of a male executive who advised her to take two weeks of vacation after having a baby. “He said to me, ‘If you want to have a life that works for you and your family, you really have to set aside some time on the mommy track.’ I had been at Facebook maybe six months by then.”

        If a female executive were to say she wanted time off for anything but a medical emergency or obligatory caring duties, she would be seen as putting her personal needs first. She’d be labeled as someone who is carelessly neglecting her responsibilities. Which is exactly what happened when Marissa Mayer took less maternity leave than Yahoo! employees with less tenure.

        The truth is, women want careers as much as men do. And they’re willing to make sacrifices, too. “We have to stop telling women to Lean In and start telling men to Lean Back. Men should be encouraged to spend more time with their families,” says Sharon Meers, author of Getting to 50/50.

        Myth: Women who are successful at their jobs are “bossy” or “shrill.”

        This is the other argument that opponents of women in leadership roles use to derail female candidates’ campaigns. If a woman doesn’t smile when she speaks, she could be perceived as being too harsh or aggressive. And if she does speak up, then everyone seems to think that she’s being bossy or shrill. Unfortunately, this means women have fewer opportunities to excel in the workplace. Even if they’re well qualified for a role, their voices can drown out any positive contributions they could make.

        Myth: Men and women are equally represented in leadership roles because of equality laws .

        Fact: Women are still held back by traditional gender stereotypes.

        For the first time in history, women now hold higher degrees than men, yet they’re still underrepresented in leadership roles. And while the number of women leaders is growing every year, there are still five times as many male CEOs compared to female ones.

        The most common argument for this imbalance is that it’s due to a pipeline problem—not enough qualified women are available to fill open leadership positions. But recent research suggests otherwise.”While progress toward equality has been significant, it hasn’t come close to achieving parity. When you set aside the reasons given for why companies lack senior-level female talent—pipeline issues and lack of focus on recruitment and development—it’s hard not to conclude that discrimination remains a major factor,” wrote Kate Hammer of Harvard Business Review.

        Perception vs. Reality

        So what is the problem? Researchers from INSEAD and The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania found that managers anecdotally perceived women as less competent than men. But they offered no evidence to support their assertions. 

        In two studies, researchers found that participants strongly believed “women are more communal and men are more agentic”— meaning women were seen as better fitting into roles with caring, social responsibilities while men were viewed as having natural talents in areas like confidence, independence and dominance. And managers also believed they needed to possess these traditionally masculine traits (sometimes called “hegemonic masculinity”) in order for their performance reviews

        For women to have more opportunities, we need to shift our thinking about gender roles. Employers should not just look for assertive or ambitious employees—they should hire women who are talented and qualified, regardless of their ability to fit into traditional gender stereotypes.

        As this article concludes, “So while it’s true that it’s hard to be a perfect worker, employer expectations will never change if we continue to perpetuate these outdated stereotypes.”

        Looking back to what we initially intended to, it is time to unshackle women from gender stereotypes and give them a chance to pursue the careers or lives they wish to.         Diversity and inclusion have long been buzzwords that companies parade—often for marketing purposes. But in the past few years, more and more job seekers and employees, particularly millennials and Gen Z, are vetting companies by their diversity and inclusion track record in addition to factors like salary and career opportunities. According to a 2020 survey conducted by the National Association of College and Employers (NACE), for instance, 79% of graduates considered a diverse workforce to be “very important.” And these workers expect companies to do more than just pay lip service to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.

        Corporations still have a long way to go to meet these expectations. A 2020 McKinsey report found that representation of ethnic minorities and women in executive teams across the U.S. and the U.K. sat at just 13% and 20% respectively in 2019. A survey by human resources consulting firm Mercer found that while white workers make up 64% of entry-level workers, they make up 85% at the executive level, illustrating the barriers that BIPOC workers face when it comes to advancement. Black women, for example, are less likely to get support and encouragement from their managers or to have a chance to interact with senior leaders, according to a Lean In report, while also experiencing a wide range of microaggressions.

        The statistics, research, and stories can seem discouraging if you’re an early career professional who’s just entering the workforce—particularly if you’re a BIPOC employee. In many cases, the reality is you’ll be joining organizations that have a lot of work left to do when it comes to DEI.

        Ultimately, widespread change can only happen when there is a policy and cultural shift at an organizational level, which has to come from those at the top. However, there are ways you can advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the early years of your career. And particularly as the war for talent in a post-pandemic workforce continues, you may find yourself in a powerful position to demand more from the companies you work for and take action that has the potential to lead to long-lasting changes. Here are five ways you can start to do just that.

        1. Take on Work That You Want (and Have the Capacity) to Do

        Diversity and inclusion touches on many aspects of the workplace—from culture to hiring to communication. As an early career employee, it can be daunting to figure out where to start if you want to make an impact.

        That’s why it’s important to take stock of where the company is at when it comes to diversity and inclusion, says Doris Quintanilla, executive director and cofounder of The Melanin Collective, an organization that provides diversity and inclusion consulting services. Then, identify areas that need improvement and ways that you might be able to help as an early career employee (see some examples below). From there, you should decide if it’s something you want (or have the capacity) to take on. This is especially important for BIPOC employees, who might feel like they have no choice but to engage in this work if they don’t see themselves reflected in their bosses and coworkers. “But unless your job is chief of diversity, then it’s not really your job. It’s an extra and should be treated as such,” says Quintanilla.

        If you do want and have the capacity to take on the work, the next step is to calculate how much time it’s going to take and how you’ll juggle those with your job responsibilities. If you need to put in extra hours, consider whether or not you’ll be compensated for that. While most companies still view diversity and inclusion work as an “extra,” a growing number are acknowledging that it’s work that involves additional labor and are treating it as such, says Dr. Akilah Cadet, executive coach and CEO and founder of Change Cadet, a consulting firm that offers services such as data assessments, planning, and advising in support of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace.

        Once you start doing the work, Quintanilla suggests keeping a record of the initiatives and responsibilities you’ve taken on—so you can refer to it later during your annual review or during conversations around promotions and pay raises. However, Cadet warns that you should be careful about taking on too much responsibility too soon. “That happens a lot with first-time employees,” she says. She especially cautions BIPOC employees from joining too many committees or doing all of the work in employee resource groups, because you don’t want to create an expectation that “can fall into tokenism.”

        2. Find Ways to Be Involved in the Hiring Process

        Companies that want to diversify their workforce often have to change their recruitment practices and find ways to widen their talent pool. And there are many ways that employees at any level can help with that, even if you’re not officially part of the hiring process. For example, if you have a diverse network of friends, Cadet says, letting those friends know about open positions in your workplace can go a long way. If you know a candidate who might be perfect for that open position, you can also recommend them to the hiring manager or at least make sure that the hiring manager sees their application.

        You can also “look at the policies and practices for how people are recruited and ask questions,” Cadet says. For instance, if your company isn’t actively recruiting from HBCUs (historically Black colleges and universities), ask them why and suggest that they start doing so.

        Writing company reviews and sharing personal stories on public websites can also help attract a broader spectrum of candidates. For starters, if you’re a person of color and you’re describing your experience as a POC at the company, “People can read that,” Quintanilla says. “That’s what’s going to get more folks to come in.”

        3. Speak Up When You See Microaggressions, But Do It Strategically

        When a company or team discriminates against marginalized employees, it can manifest in big ways—like overlooking them for a promotion. But it also happens in day-to-day interactions and social conversations—for example, when colleagues shut down and question their ideas in meetings. It’s important to speak up when those things happen, Cadet says, but how you do it and what you say should depend on the situation that you’re witnessing or experiencing.

        Take the example of a BIPOC employee who constantly has their ideas shut down or questioned in meetings. If it’s happening to you, Cadet recommends sending an email or pulling the offender(s) aside privately after the meeting and saying something along the lines of, “I know this might not have been your intent, but I wanted to bring this to your attention because when you do x, I feel this way.”

        If you’re an observer who doesn’t want to be a complicit bystander, you might similarly approach someone privately after the fact. Or if you witness a microaggression in a smaller group or one-on-one setting, and you have a comfortable relationship with the person, it’s best to call it out in the moment. Saying something like, “That’s a microaggression, let’s not use that,” or, “That’s not accurate,” lets the person know that what they’re saying is inappropriate. Then you can either explain in the moment how the language is hurtful or tell the person, “I’m happy to explain why at a later time.”

        4. Initiate Conversations Around Current Events

        Both Cadet and Quintanilla say that one of the most important and valuable things that an early career employee can do to improve diversity and inclusion in a company is to be willing to ask hard questions and engage in difficult conversations.

        Use the news as a jumping-off point to initiate conversations around how current events might impact employees in the office, Cadet says. During one-on-one meetings with your supervisor, you might say something like, “This xyz thing that is happening in the news is affecting me. Can we talk more about this as a company?” In a group meeting setting, it might be saying something like, “This x thing in the news is upsetting. I wonder how everyone is feeling about it?”

        Early career employees might feel like they’re not in the position to make policy changes, but Cadet and Quintanilla say that bringing up these types of discussions is actually the first step. After all, policy changes don’t happen instantaneously. Cadet urges entry-level employees to use their “newness” to their advantage. Many companies are actively engaging in anti-racism efforts, she says, and having early career employees ask questions around what they’re doing in response to current events is one way they can hold the company accountable.

        5. Enforce Your Boundaries

        Improving diversity and inclusion is not an overnight task. It’s an ongoing process that requires a significant amount of emotional energy. There might be weeks that just feel too heavy, and you’re not in the headspace to engage in this kind of work. It’s vital that you can say no in those circumstances, Quintanilla says, which is easier to do “when you have set expectations and boundaries,” both with yourself and also the people at work.

        Boundaries are important regardless of how people identify, Cadet says. For white (or white-passing) employees, “their boundaries are around relationships,” explains Cadet. “Am I still going to talk to this coworker who is clearly discriminatory, sexist, homophobic, or racist?” If you decide to continue to talk to them, what kind of boundaries can you set around conversation topics and discussion points? Of course, this can be difficult to do if the person in question is your supervisor or someone who wields a lot of power at the company. In this case, Cadet says that the best thing to do is to report them to HR, or at least talk to another supervisor or senior employee that you have a good relationship with.

        For BIPOC, it might be saying, “I don’t want to educate today, I’m tired,” or having resources on hand to direct people to—whether it be books, podcasts, or video clips—when they find themselves on the receiving end of diversity and inclusion-related questions. Giving yourself a break is just as important as doing the work, Cadet says. “We have to make sure we are whole before we’re helping other people.”
